Recipe portability

Bring your recipe library with you

Switching apps shouldn't mean re-typing years of recipes. Import your whole collection from other brewing apps using BeerXML or BeerJSON — and export it again any time you like. It's free, with unlimited recipes and no lock-in.

Formats you can import

BeerXML and BeerJSON are the standard interchange formats, so recipes move in from almost any brewing app or recipe site.

  • BeerXML

The universal brewing format. Almost every brewing app and recipe site can export BeerXML (.xml) — so you can move recipes from nearly anywhere.

  • BeerJSON

The modern brewing standard. Import .json or .beerjson files with full support for all-grain, extract, and partial-mash recipes.

  • Brewfather JSON

Moving from Brewfather? Export your recipes as JSON and bring your whole library straight across — with a review step before anything saves.

How importing works

  1. 1

    Export from your current app

Download your recipes as BeerXML or BeerJSON from whatever brewing tool you use today.

  2. 2

    Upload to Alechemy

Drop the file into the import dialog — a single recipe or a whole library, both work.

  3. 3

    Review, then save

See exactly what will be imported — with calculated OG, FG, ABV, and colour, plus duplicate detection — before anything is added to your account.

Easy to bring in. Easy to take out.

Your recipes are always yours. Export your whole library back to BeerXML or BeerJSON whenever you want — there's no risk in giving Alechemy a try.
